The practice was established in Standerton in 1952 by an Optometrist, Mr Derek Humphriss. In 1954 Mr. Gerald Lawrence entered into partnership with Mr Humphriss and eventually in 1965 was sole owner of the practice. Mr Lawrence’s son, Mark, qualified in 1987 and took over the practice.
Mark qualified as an Optometrist in 1987, however due to the demands of being an international test rugby referee he took some time off to pursue rugby full time, which led to a stellar career including officiating in two Rugby World Cups, Super Rugby and Currie Cup finals. In 2001 he re-opened his doors in the new premises and since then Mark Lawrence Optometrist has been leading the charge in overall eye health in Mpumalanga.
Danielle Marks daughter Danielle also a qualified Optometrist with diagnostic privileges has a special interest in Paediatric Optometry, Dry Eye Disease as well as General Optometry. Furthermore she brings a wealth of experience gained in the Pharmaceutical medical industry.
